Protecting Unity
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. Psalm 133:1-3
Do you want your marriage to be blessed? The Lord’s blessing is where God’s people live together in unity. That’s why protecting the unity of your marriage is so important. Practically speaking, what does protecting the unity of your marriage mean? Practically, it means protecting one another’s spiritual life. What is the biggest deterrent to living a spiritual life? Sin. One of the ways you protect your spiritual life is being mindful of what you allow yourself to see with your eyes. I know. Sounds so miniscule, right? But Matthew 6:22 says, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.” The average time an American spends watching TV is roughly 5 hours a day. Most, if not all, channels are inundated with blatant and subtle sexual content, crude humor, negativity, and the list goes on. Men, typically, struggle with sexual sin, as well as, women. Sexual sin tears slowly or rapidly at the bonds of a husband and wife. It weakens the individuals’ relationship with God, as well as, the individuals’ relationship with their spouse. It can be devastating to a marriage. Some leave and some stay in an empty, broken, non-functioning marriage. I challenge you to be extra diligent about what you watch on TV or the Internet. I challenge you to set filters on your Internet at home. It’s time for the church to fight for purity in our marriages. It’s time to honor one another and honor God with what we allow our eyes to see. Protect your marriage by not allowing the Enemy a foothold through what you watch. We will see His tremendous blessing in our marriages and in our lives, in general, when we become more deliberate in choosing unity and purity over sin.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
